{"id":2974,"date":"2025-05-22T14:16:10","date_gmt":"2025-05-22T18:16:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/layneredmond.com\/shop\/?post_type=product&#038;p=2974"},"modified":"2025-05-22T16:26:11","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T20:26:11","slug":"hymns-from-hive-download","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/layneredmond.com\/shop\/product\/hymns-from-hive-download\/","title":{"rendered":"Hymns from the Hive (download)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Layne Redmond\u2019s\u00a0acclaimed musical career has focused on the frame drum, the world\u2019s oldest known drum.\u00a0 For fifteen years, she researched the history of this drum in the religious and healing rites of the ancient Mediterranean world culminating in her book,\u00a0<strong>When The Drummers Were Women<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This book details a time when women were the primary percussionists and also explains why they are not today.\u00a0 Many of these drummers were also sacred beekeepers, their titles were the\u00a0<strong>Melissaes<\/strong>, which means\u00a0<strong>bee<\/strong>\u00a0in Greek and Latin and the\u00a0<strong>Deborahs<\/strong>, which means\u00a0<strong>bee<\/strong>\u00a0or<strong>\u00a0swarm of bees\u00a0<\/strong>in Hebrew.\u00a0 These ancient women, kept by their bees, inspired Layne to spend time studying the sacred traditions connected to beekeepers around the world.<\/p>\n<p>She discovered that the Sanskrit word,\u00a0<strong>Anahata<\/strong>,\u00a0means the unstruck, unhearable, celestial buzzing sound of creation.\u00a0 Old texts from India say that the audible sound most similar to the Anahata is the sound of bees humming.\u00a0 In the summer of 2008 she spent much time listening to bees buzzing and heard beautiful songs from deep within the hive.<\/p>\n<p>She recorded the bees, tuned her frame drums to the pitch of their buzzing and called in the presence of brilliant\u00a0musicians:\u00a0 the voices of Amit Chatterjee, Mariella Santiago, and Marcela Belas; the violin of Vicki Richards; the percussion of Tommy Be, Everton Isidoro, Eduardo Moto and Ubaldo Oliveira; and the piano and keyboards of Tadeu Mascarenhas. \u00a0Through these sacred technicians of sound the Hymns the bees sang in her mind have come into the human realm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hymns from the Hive: Music Made With The Bees<br \/>\nIn the summer of 2008, Layne spent much time listening to bees buzzing and heard beautiful songs from deep within the hive.<\/p>\n<p>She recorded the bees, tuned her frame drums to the pitch of their buzzing and called in the presence of brilliant musicians.
